Fairness ideals in inventory allocation

چکیده
We study fairness ideals in distribution systems where inventory is allocated to multiple retailers and there supply–demand mismatch. In particular, we focus on (a) what considered fair allocation by (e.g., equal profit, same fill rate, share of mismatch?) (b) how the supply chain context affects perceptions. consider an integrated setting total at retail level may face either shortage or surplus, a disintegrated scarcity when demand exceeds available inventory. Our experimental data suggest that subjects, taking role chain, are often motivated considerations: they claim for themselves not exactly their needs more than one-third instances. Across settings, “fair” allocations depend demands rather profit comparisons, even these facilitated decision support tool. However, cases most prevalent ideal split inventory–demand mismatch, while shortage, rates. Follow-up experiments under both surplus likely evaluate as it based realized demands, this independent whether was determined rule human maker.

Fairness Ideals in Distribution Channels
Existing research suggests that concerns for fairness may significantly affect the interactions between firms in a distribution channel. We analytically and experimentally evaluate how firms make decisions in a two-stage dyadic channel, in which firms decide on investments in the first stage and then on prices in the second stage. We find that firms’ behavior differs significantly from the pred...
متن کاملFairness Measures for Resource Allocation
In many optimization problems, one seeks to allocate a limited set of resources to a set of individuals with demands. Thus, such allocations can naturally be viewed as vectors, with one coordinate representing each individual. Motivated by work in network routing and bandwidth assignment, we consider the problem of producing solutions that simultaneously approximate all feasible allocations in ...
متن کاملConstrained Inventory Allocation
This paper shows how to allocate a limited supply of inventory in a centralized distribution system with multiple retailers subject to minimal supply commitments and maximum delivery limits for each retailer. The objective is to maximize the number of units sold by all retailers in one time period. The analysis is done by building on a classical result of Derman. The demand at each retailer is ...
متن کاملPerceptions of Fairness and Allocation Systems
This paper explores the conditions of acceptability of differing allocation systems under scarcity and evaluates what makes a price system more or less fair. We find that fairness in an allocation arrangement depend on the institutional settings inherent in the situation, such as information, transparency and competition and the perceived institutional quality (e.g., fiscal exchange and institu...
متن کاملThe Pluralism of Fairness Ideals: An Experimental Approach
A core question in the contemporary debate on distributive justice is how to understand fairness in situations involving production. Important theories of distributive justice, such as strict egalitarianism, liberal egalitarianism, and libertarianism, provide different answers to this question. This paper presents the results from a dictator game where the distribution phase is preceded by a pr...
